About Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the most popular national parks in India. It is located in the district of Umaria in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is one of India’s most popular project tiger reserves. The total area of the Bandhavgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is 437 square km. It got the status of national park in 1968 with the area of 105 square km. Bandhavgarh Sanctuary has been an excellent habitat of tigers. The density of the tiger population at this sanctuary is one of the highest known in India.
It was declared as one of India’s project tiger reserves in 1993. This widely famous tiger reserve of India named after the highest hillock – Bandhavgarh Fort – located in centre of the reserve. The Bandhavgarh Jungle is known for tiger populations. It has also large breeding populations of panthers and various species of deer. Once it was also the home of white tigers. Today, Bandhavgarh National Park & Tiger Reserve is globally famous for wildlife viewing, bird watching, nature safari, wildlife tourism, and wildlife expedition.
Flora In Bandhavgarh Major floras found in the forest of Bandhavgarh National Park & Tiger Reserve are Sal, Saj, Dhaora, Tendu, Arjun, Palas, Amla, Bamboo, Jamun, Mango, Bhirra, Salai, Camar, Dhaman, etc. Fauna of Bandhavgarh is paradise haven of various species of bird species. Nature safari in the park gives tourists wonderful opportunity to know about various species of trees.
Fauna in Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh is very famous for tiger viewing. It is home of cat families like tigers, panthers, leopards, etc. Major animal species found in the Bandhavgarh wildlife sanctuary are tiger, leopard, panther, sambar, barking deer, blue bull, wild boar, wild dog, chinkara, bison, chital, chausinga, black buck, deer, fox, jackal, langur, etc. The Bandhavgarh Reserve is home of about 242 species of birds. Commonly seen birds in the park are White Breasted Kingfisher, Peafowl, Grey Hornbill, Red Jungle Fowl, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Red Wattled Lapwing, Common Teals, Crested Serpent Eagle, Lesser Adjutant Stork, etc. Various reptiles also found in the reserve. Python, Cobra, vipers, Kraits, etc are found.

Kalchuri Archaeological Museum: This museum has the archaeological remains of Kalchuri Period and many historical things.
Bandhavgarh Fort: Built in 14 century the majestic Bandhavgarh Fort is located in the centre of reserve atop hill. In fact, the entire park area is hilly and is dominated by this magnificent fort. The fort and the adjacent hills have many caves belonging to the pre-historic period.
Jeep & Elephant Safari: Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy wildlife viewing and bird watching in two ways at Bandhavgarh National Park – Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari. Jeep Safari is organized during the early morning hours till evening by forest department. While Jeep Safari a guide from the forest department is always there with the visitors on the jeeps. Elephant Safari is organized for tiger spotting in the early morning.

Best time to visit this famous national park of India is the period of mid November to June.

Rail: The nearest Railway station is Umaria.
Road: Bandhavgarh is situated on the Satna-Umaria and Rewa-Umaria Highway. It is well connected with excellent network of roads.
