About Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is a one of India’s famous national park. It is located on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River. It is located in Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam in the far North East of India. The park covers an area of approximately 430 square km with its swamps and thickest & tall elephant grassland. It is an ideal habitat of Great One-horned Rhinoceroses. It is a world heritage site declared by UNESCO in 1985 due to its natural environment. It is very famous for tigers, elephants and Indian one-horned rhinos. The park possesses the high density of tigers among protected areas in the world.

In 1908, Kaziranga was chosen as a Reserve Forest. It became Kaziranga Game Sanctuary in 1916. In 1950 it was renamed the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary. In 1974 it was declared as the National Park and known as the Kaziranga National Park. In 2006 it was declared as Tiger Reserve.

Flora in Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park has four main types of vegetations – swamped grassland, swamped woodlands, moist mixed deciduous forests, and semi-evergreen forests. Common tall grasses found in the park are spear grass, sugarcanes, elephant grass, and common reed. Major trees & shrubs found in the park are Aphanamixis polystachya, Leea indica, Leea umbraculifera, Aphania rubra, Mallotus philippensis, Sterculia urens, Lagerstroemia speciosa, Syzygium species, Cinnamomum bejolghota, Dillenia indica, Bridelia retusa, Grewia serrulata, Crateva unilocularis, Duabanga grandiflora, Ficus rumphii, Garcinia tinctoria, Talauma hodgsonii, etc.

Fauna in Kaziranga National Park
There are 35 mammal species found in the Kaziranga National Park. It is the home to the large populations of great Indian one-horned rhinos, wild Asiatic water buffalo, swamp deer, etc. Other major animals found in the park are elephant, gaur, sambar, wild boar, hog deer, Indian muntjac, tiger, leopard panther, jungle cat, fishing cat, hispid hare, gray mongoose, golden jackal, large Indian civet, Bengal fox, sloth beer, Chinese pangolin, flying squirrel, capped golden langur, etc.

In the river of Kaziranga, Dolphins also can be seen. Kaziranga National Park is also home to a variety of migratory birds, water birds and game birds. Commonly seen birds in the park are Lesser White-fronted Goose, Lesser Adjutant, Greater Adjutant, Asian Open-bill Stork, Baer's Pochard Duck, Ferruginous Duck, White-bellied Heron, Indian Roller, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Black-billed Tern, Blyth’s Kingfisher, White-rumped Vulture, Slender-billed Vulture, Bengal Floricans, Pale-capped Pigeon, Great Indian Hornbill, Bristled Grassbird, etc. Reptiles like Reticulated Python, Rock Python, King Cobra, Indian Cobra, Monocled Cobra, Russels’ Viper, common Krait, Monitor Lizard, Water Monitor, Bengal Monitor, turtle, tortoise, etc are also found at Kaziranga National Park.

Elephant Safari: Elephant Safari is one of the popular attractions that can be enjoyed at Kaziranga National Park. It is best way to explore the charm of wildlife attractions and rich flora of the park.
One-horned Rhino: It is the prime attractions of the park for which the park is known for. The park has two-thirds of the world’s great one-horned rhinoceroses.

Best Time to Visit Kaziranga :-
Excellent time to visit Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve is the period of November to early April.

Air: The nearest airport is situated at Jorhat which is 97 km away from Kaziranga. Guwahati Airport is at the distance of 217 km.
Rail: The nearest railway station is Furkating, situated 75 km away from Kaziranga.
