About Manas National Park
Manas National Park is a famous National Park, Wildlife Sanctuary, UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, Project Tiger Reserve, Elephant Reserve and Biosphere Reserve in Indian state of Assam. It is situated on the foothills of the mighty Himalayas and a part of this sanctuary extends to Bhutan. For nature and wildlife lovers perhaps it is the most popular site in northeast region of India. Natural lovers and wildlife lovers from all over the world visit this sanctuary quite in good number. This sanctuary is very famous for endangered wildlife like the Hispid Hare, Pygmy Hog,Book your Tour Golden Langur and Assam.

Endowed with superb scenic beauty and rich in its flora and fauna this famous national park and wildlife sanctuary derives its name from the Manas River which is named after snake goddess Manasa. The Manas River is a prime tributary of the might River Brahmaputra. It passes through the heart of the Manas National Park and adds special charm to park. This park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in they year of 1928 with area of 360 square km. In the year of 1973 it got the status of Tiger Reserve. During the period of 1951 and 1955, the park area was increased to 391 square km. In December 1985, the park was declared as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The park area was increased to 950 square km in February 25th, 2008.

Flora in Manas National Park
With two major biomes (the grassland biome and the forest biome), Manas National Park is rich in its flora and natural & scenic beauty. It is a very ideal place for nature trekking or nature safari with wildlife & bird viewing. Semi-evergreen forests, moist & dry deciduous forests, woodlands and grasslands make this park popular among nature lovers as well as wildlife lovers. Grasslands cover almost 50% of the park. There are about 545 plant species in the sanctuary.

Common trees found in the park are Aphanamixis polystachya, Syzygium cumini, Bauhinia purpurea, Cinnamomum tamala, Bombax ceiba, Dillenia indica, Careya arborea, Terminalia bellirica, Trewia polycarpa, Oroxylum indicum, Anthocephalus chinensis, Mallotus philippensis, Actinodaphne obvata, Sterculia villosa, Lagerstroemia parviflora, Gmelina arborea, etc. Common grasses found in the park are Bombax ceiba, Dillenia pentagyna, Arundo donax, Saccharum naranga, Imperata cylindrica, Phragmites karka, Phyllanthus emblica, Leea species, Premna species,Book your Tour Mussaendaa, Clerodendrum species, etc.

Fauna in Manas National Park
The park has 380 species of birds, 55 species of mammals, 50 species of reptiles and 3 species of amphibians. So, the park is very rich in its fauna. It captivate wildlife lovers their rich and varied fauna. Major animals found in the park are Asian Elephant, Asian Water Buffalo, Asian Golden Cat, Assamese Macaques, Smooth-coated Otter, Sloth Bear, Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Sambar Deer, Hog Deer, Hoolock Gibbon, Slow Loris, Capped Langur, Golden Langur, etc, The Park is very known for rare animals like Assam Roofed Turtle,Hispid Hare and Pygmy Hog.

Major birds found in the park are Giant Hornbills, Grey Hornbills, Pied Hornbills, Nightingale (Bulbul), Jungle Fowls, Serpent Eagles, Fishing Eagles, Brahminy Ducks, Herons, Ospreys, Harriers, Falcons, Bee Eaters, Kalij Pheasants, Pelicans Egrets, Scarlet Minivets, Magpie Robins, etc. Manas Wildlife Sanctuary has the largest population of endangered Bengal Floricans.

Rail: The nearest railway station is Barpeta Road.
