About Ranthambore National Park
Situated in the Indian State of Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is one of the largest and most famous national parks in northern India. It is situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan where the Aravalli Hill ranges and the Vindhya plateau meet. It was once the hunting preserve the Maharajahs of Jaipur. Today it is one of the most popular destinations for wildlife expedition, nature safari, wildlife tourism and tiger viewing. The park is bounded by two rivers – the River Chambal in the South and the River Banas in the North. This park is easily accessible from the town of Sawai Madhopur which is situated at the distance of 11 km only.Book your Tour The nearest railway station is also at Sawai Madhopur.

In 1955 Ranthambore was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary. In 1973 it was declared as one of the Project Tiger reserves. In 1980 it gained the status of National Park. In 1991 the Ranthambore tiger reserve was enlarged combining Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary. There are six man made lakes and many perennial stream crisscrossing in the park. The park has internal drainage system and has no link up with the rivers which bound the park.

Flora in Ranthambore National Park
The forest of Ranthambore is dry deciduous type. There are approximately 300 species of trees in the park. Major trees in the park are Dhok, Pipal, Banyan, Mango, Imli, Dhak, Blackberry, Kadam, Khair, Khajur, Neem, Mahua, Kakera, Babul, etc. Dhok (anogeissus pendula) is the most noticeable tree in the park. The park is also the site for one of the largest banyan trees in India. There are also about 50 aquatic plants in the park. The park is very ideal place for nature safaris or nature treks.

Fauna in Ranthambore National Park
Ranthambhore National Park is widely famous for wildlife population especially tigers. It is one of the India’s most famous Project tiger reserves. The major wildlife attractions of the park include about 30 mammals, 275 birds, and 12 reptiles including the marsh crocodile & amphibians. Major animals & wildlife attractions can be seen in the park tigers, leopards, panthers, jungle cats, sloth bear, antelopes, hyenas, spotted deer, stags, mongoose, Indian hare, monitor lizards, crocodiles, wild boars, etc. So the park is very ideal place for wildlife viewingBook your Tour and bird watching.

Major Attractions in Ranthambore
Tigers: The Park is widely acclaimed for tiger viewing. It is one of the best places to see the sensational activities of tigers in their natural surroundings. Tigers can be seen even during the day time walking or basking under the sun.
Ranthambhore Fort & Jogi Mahal: This famous park got its name from the magnificent Ranthambore Fort. Towering the entire park area, this majestic fort was built in 10th century. The fort stands on a rocky outcrop at feet of 700 above the surrounding plain in the heart of the park. It is one of the oldest existing forts in Rajasthan. There are three ancient red stone temples inside the fort complex. Temples are devoted to Hindu gods – Ganesh, Shiva and Ramlalaji. These temples were constructed in 12the and 13 century. The entry point to the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve goes string to the foot of the majestic fort and the Jogi Mahal – the forest rest house.
Padam Talao: This is the largest lake among many lakes located inside the Ranthambhore Park. The beautiful red sandstone Jogi Mahal (the forest rest house) is situated at the banks of this lake.
Banyan Tree: The Park has the second largest banyan tree in India. This gigantic banyan tree is situated very near to the Padam Talao Lake.

Best Time to Visit Ranthambore
Good time to visit Ranthambhore National Park is during the months of October to June. The best time of to visit the park is the month of October and November. It is time when the nature of the dry deciduous forests makes sightings common.

Air: The nearest airport is at Jaipur (the capital city of Rajasthan). Jaipur Airport is about 145 km away from the Ranthambhore Wildlife Sanctuary.
