Ganges, also known as Ganga, is one of the most important rivers in India. It flows east through the Gangetic Plain of North India into Bangladesh. It rises from the Gangotri glacier of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand (India) and empties into the Sunderbans delta in the Bay of Bengal. It is known for its religious significance, commercial significance and ecological significance.
