Junagarh Fort is one of the most impressive forts situated in Rajasthan, India. It is located in the city of Bikaner also known as the “Camel City” or “Camel Country”. This magnificent fort was originally called Chintamani Fort. It was renamed as “Junagarh Fort” or “Old Fort” in the early 20th century. The fort is one of the few major forts in India not located on hilltop. Generally, forts of Rajasthan are built on hilltop.
This magnificent fort was built by Raja Rai Singh Ji (the Sixth Ruler of Bikaner) in 1588 1593. Under the supervision of Karan Chand, the Prime Minister of Raja Rai Singh Ji. The fort is very popular as the unconquered fort till date. The fort complex is known for its architectural excellence and boasts a number of fascinating palaces. All the palaces within the fort complex are built in red sand stone. Intricately carved courtyard, balconies, windows, towers and temples, museum, etc are main attractions.

Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace): The palace attracts tourists with mirrored walls, beautiful paintings, carved marble panels and stunning designs.
Phool Mahal (Flower Palace): The palace is known for beautiful architecture ornamented with mirrors, glasses and intricately carved designs.
Karan Mahal : It is a beautiful palace inside the fort complex. It was built to commemorate the victory of Aurangzeb.
Anup Mahal : It is multi-storeyed beautiful palace used as audience and governance chambers.
Fort Museum : The museum shows rich collection of jewellery, arms, weapons, carpets, handicrafts, treaties, illuminated manuscripts, and royal Farmans.
Others : Suraj Pol, Durga Niwas, Lal Niwas, Vikram Palace, Ganga Niwas, Dungar Niwas, Vijay Mahal (the Palace of Victory), Rang Mahal and Har Mandir Temple.
