The Lake Palace is an elegant palace situated in the beautiful city of Udaipur, Rajasthan. It is located on a natural base of 4 acres rock on the Jag Niwas Island in the middle of picturesque lake, Pichola Lake. It was build by Maharana Jagat Singh II in 1743 – 1746 as a royal summer palace. It was initially called Jag Niwas Palace or Jan Niwas Palace. The elegant palace is built in white marble and looks like a jewel emerging from the middle of the picturesque Lake Pichola.
The palace boasts royal durbars, vast courtyards, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens. These all add special charm to this palatial palace. The rooms and apartments inside the beautiful Lake Palace are classic example of sophisticated royalty. Interior beauty of the palace is awesome with the presence of pointed arches, painted mirrors, inlay works, stunning motifs, etc.
This beautiful palace has a number of beautiful buildings. Some of them are Bada Mahal, Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal, Kush Mahal, etc. The rooms at these palaces are beautified with painted mirror works, colorful lotus leaves, inlaid stone work, stunning motifs, etc.
Today, the Lake Palace is a one of the most beautiful palaces not only in Rajasthan or India but also in the world. This beautiful palace has now been converted into a luxury heritage hotel. It is run by the Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces and called Hotel Taj Lake Palace. The palace hotel has 83 rooms, 53 deluxe rooms and 17 royal suits. Each of the room of this palatial hotel has a distinct theme and is ornamented with the textiles and handcrafts as per the theme.
