The famous Mysore Palace is situated in the city of Mysore in the state of Karnataka, South India. This historically famous palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Karnataka and India as well. It was the official seat of the erstwhile royal family of Mysore. It housed the royal court called Darbar.

The Mysore Palace has many interesting facts about it. The palace was originally built in 14th century by Wodeyar dynasty. But unfortunately the palace was partially damaged by natural calamities. It was reconstructed and expanded in 1638. In 1793 it was destroyed and a new palace was constructed in 1803. In the year of 1897 the palace was again destroyed in fire during the wedding of Princess Jaya Lakshmani. The work again started and the magnificent palace that we see today was built in the year of 1912 by the regent of Mysore at the time. There are many other historic palaces in Mysore but the most popular one is the Mysore Palace or the Palace of Mysore. Mysore is also known as the “City of Palaces”.

The architectural excellence of the Mysore Palace appeals tourists from all over the world. The architectural style of the palace is the perfect blend of Hindu, Muslim and Gothic styles of architecture. Built in stone, the palace has three storeys with marble domes and 145 feet tower. The tower has five storeys. The palace is surrounded by a gorgeous garden which adds more charm to this elegant palace. Doll’s Pavilion, Unique Carved Rooms, Royal Wedding Hall, Ambavilasa, Lakshmiramana Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu), Someshvara Temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva), Audience Chamber, Public Darbar, Armory, etc are attractions of Mysore Palace.

The best time to visit Mysore Palace is September-October (during the festival of Dushehra). During this festival, one has also wonderful opportunity to se the Royal Throne of Wodeyar Kings. During this festival the palace is illuminated with more than 10000 lights. Musical performances, cultural programs and traditional dances are performed on the ground of this elegant palace of Mysore.

By Air : The nearest airport to reach at Mysore is Bangalore (the Capital of Karnataka). Bangalore Airport is well connected by flights with major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, etc.
